Carol Taylor, Registered Manager – Unique Community Services

Carol’s always had an interest in bad eyes and a geeky love for glasses and lenses. That’s why she has optical background and started working for a high street clinic as a qualified Dispenser.

She worked here for about 10 years, before moving on to work for a domiciliary optician in 2004. Carol joined as a Dispenser but worked her way up to becoming a Business Development Manager, covering the East of England.

The organisation Carol worked for specialised in dementia care and became the market leader in this area. The dementia patients were unable to communicate their needs, so they developed a lifestyle passport, looking at patients’ lifestyle, interests, and ocular history to ascertain what type of glasses they may need.

Carol worked here for 16 years but was made redundant in August 2020 because of the pandemic. She had planned to take some time off and go into something completely new but was approached to speak to Trevor about a position and fell in love with the Catalyst Care Group offer.

She joined in September as Client Services Manager for Unique Nursing, but a month into the role Trevor asked if she would be interested in becoming the Registered Manager for new service – Unique Community Services, Manchester. Carol jumped at this, as it was an opportunity to develop a new role and learn. She is nearly a year in the role and loving it. As well as building the Unique Community Services, Manchester brand, she is busily working towards her Level 5 Leadership qualification, to satisfy CQC requirements.

Carol is a mum to four children, seven grandchildren (with an eighth on the way) and her happy place is her caravan in Skegness, where she enjoys socialising and drinking a glass or two of gin with her fellow caravanners.
